Kind words from a few of our clients as well as healthcare providers about their experience working with us

"I am forever grateful for my time with Dalecia! The friendship and peace she offered has had a huge impact on my life! In labor, she brought such peace and gave me confidence in my ability to bring this life into the world. Her words and spirit have been essential in my belief that I can do this, I can bring my beautiful girl into this world and do a good job raising her. Dalecia had a major role in my confidence as a new mother and for that, I will never forget her. I had never felt so powerful as when Dalecia was encouraging me and supporting me in the birthing process.
In the months following the birth, she was there for me to talk through my thoughts and emotions, and gave wisdom on motherhood. She cooked for me and loved on my baby while I got time to myself. She gave me a book about sleep and my goodness it's become a treasure! She sent me links and showed me techniques and got me information. Dalecia Young has been an integral part of my journey into motherhood and I am forever grateful for her!"

“I wanted to make sure that I had an informed advocate for both me and my baby. Due North was recommended to myself and my partner by a family friend and coworker. My doula helped me navigate the confusing and overwhelming plethora of decisions and products I had to deal with. She helped me to think through pregnancy issues I was experiencing and think ahead to labor and postpartum considerations. Equally as important, she provided a non-judgmental space so I could air my concerns and work through anxieties. Including me in the community of other doulas and her other clients was a lovely and unexpected part of this experience. Being pregnant during covid can be particularly isolating, so this was especially welcome. I am so very grateful to have had the opportunity to experience becoming a mother with this amazing support.”

“First-time pregnancy and knew I wanted to have a medication-free birth. Dalecia was my first call when looking for providers and after the initial phone conversation felt she would be a great support to have at my birth. I had a terrific experience working with Dalecia at Due North! She was very knowledgeable and informative in helping me prepare for the birth process. She supported my husband and me throughout the many hours of labor and was dedicated to our success in having a gentle birth for our first child! She knew the right things to say at the right times during my labor and delivery and I attribute a large part of my ability to cope with the process to her gentle guidance. I would recommend her doula support services to any expecting mother.”

“I met Dalecia Young while attending a labor and birth of a mother with no other available support. She provided exemplary professional care for this woman. We all work as a team to support women and their families to have safe, healing, and empowering birth experiences. Doula care is part of this and I know for a fact that Dalecia helped to create an environment with her/our client that made a lifelong difference for her and her child. I wish we could have Dalecia or someone just like her available for every mother. Please consider Dalecia Young with the highest regards.”

“I knew that having a doula would be helpful, but I did not know how enriching having Dalecia as our doula would be! Dalecia brought a calmness to my first labor and really helped my partner support me better- without making anyone feel like they were doing something wrong. Dalecia helped me make decisions through the course of my labor that made me feel informed and empowered. Dalecia's ability to be present, but not obtrusive. My birth team included my midwife, nurse, Dalecia, and my husband and Dalecia knew when to chime in, what to offer, and how to communicate with each person so that I was supported whether I was privy to it at the moment or not! Dalecia helped my partner shed his nerves during labor so that he could be there for me more fully. Everyone deserves a doula!!”

My first introduction to Dalecia was from one of my nulliparous clients who bounced into her prenatal visit ecstatically telling me about Dalecia, the doula she hired. The client was thrilled to find someone so relatable, incredibly knowledgeable, genuine in her passion, and gentle in her mannerisms. I had the privilege of witnessing Dalecia’s therapeutic skillset and fully credit her with enabling that mother to achieve a birth center birth. Dalecia created and protected such a calming and supportive birth space that when I arrived to assess her labor progress, the client’s blood pressure was lower than at her previous routine prenatal visit, despite the fact that the client was in transition, a time when most mothers’ blood pressures spike in response to pain, stress and hormone swings. I loved working with her as she was a consummate professional, quietly assisting without needing to be asked or given direction allowing me to focus on safety and labor progress. Since that birth, I recommend her glowingly and without reservation to every client asking about doula support! I can attest to the impact that Dalecia Young is having as a birth worker among Alaska families.

“I worked with Due North Support Services for my second labor since my first labor was traumatic to me. Dalecia is so informative, spiritually fit, and soothing. She made me feel important; as if there was a calm version of my best friend who knew what she was doing was helping me pre-labor, during the active labor portion, and the postpartum period. I felt scared prior and she relaxed my fears, during labor I stayed in the loop without having to focus on anything but laboring. Then postpartum I got to get answers for problems I didn’t know there were answers to. Dalecia is sooo worth asking to join you in your experience and you’ll be likely to want to keep her in your life because she is certainly one of a kind. She will be very professional and at the same time laid back. She will be present for you and help you feel like your concerns are number one and she even integrates the special finesse into your family. Highly highly recommended!”

“I wasn't sure about getting doula at first, especially since I was having a hospital birth. But I also was really nervous and hoping that things would go well and I wasn't even sure who I had as a support person, at the time. I was initially worried about paying for the services as well, but there were some options available to help (such as a payment plan). Having a doula ended up being super helpful. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and had an induction and it was all very nerve-wracking. Having someone to help me plan things out, go over methods of coping with pain, and just general support was so helpful in my pregnancy/birth. At the actual birth, having physical support was probably the most helpful, surprisingly. It helped with the pain but also moved the induction along and later got into birthing positions after the epidural. Also, post-partum visits are awesome! I even had a few extra visits because the help was so nice. I definitely recommend Due North, especially the doula services!”

“I went on a walk with two friends who were super adamant that everyone deserves a doula. So, when I got home, I went online and found Dalecia! I had no idea how invaluable her support would be. As someone who often codeswitches between western science and generational wisdom, I thought I would be able to apply these skills to navigating my pregnancy/delivery but underestimated how emotions/fear made it easier to default to what the doctor recommended. I really appreciated Dalecia's patience, support for self-advocacy, and gentle reminders to ground ourselves in our intuitions. She helped me feel confident in my knowledge of what we and our baby have needed, which allowed me to assessing risk in ways that have been much more specific to my situation than the super cautious blanket recommendations western medicine prescribes.
When I reached out, I knew I had a lot of fear to work through and I wanted support preparing mentally for birth, which Dalecia definitely did - to the point that I didn't even have to consciously think about my "mental blinders" to turn off my intellectual gears and I was able to be physically present. On top of that, when we learned late in pregnancy that our baby’s growth had slowed down, Dalecia’s grounding thoughtfulness and breadth of perspective enabled us to advocate for what was best for us and our baby while navigating some pivotal decisions around when and how to induce labor. I am so grateful we were able to have a “natural hospital birth” that struck the balance between having access to the care our baby needed and giving my body the chance to do its thing, which was amazing.”
