Notice: The Community Doula Program is no longer accepting intakes for new participants effective January 4th, 2024.
The Community Doula Program will sunset on May 11, 2024 for all current participants.
In partnership with the State of Alaska, Due North Support Services is excited to offer and provide free doula care to eligible Alaskan families through our Community Doula Program.
Currently, in-person visits and labor support are only available in the Anchorage area. Virtual prenatal and postpartum visits are available to all Alaskan communities.
A doula is a non-medical companion to pregnant people and their families before, during, and after childbirth.
Research has proven Doula care to be beneficial in ways such as and not limited to improving outcomes, increasing confidence and readiness, lowering the rate of interventions, and lowering the risk of postpartum depression.
This program is prioritizing pregnant and postpartum people who:
Are experiencing housing instability
Have no other labor support
Have a trauma history or a previous traumatic birth experience
have a high-risk medical condition or mental health diagnosis
Are BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, or other people of color)
This program is supported by grant funding through a partnership between the State of Alaska and the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Health.
