Community Doula Mentorship Program
Now HIRING professional, passionate birth workers!
Are you a newly trained or recently certified (within the past 4 years) doula residing in Alaska who is looking for direct experience to increase your skillset and confidence and experience?
With few doula job openings or apprenticeship positions offered through most training and certifying organizations or in the local area, newly trained doulas struggle with knowing where to start after investing their resources into their education. They are often expected to take a leap from trainee to an entrepreneur overnight with few opportunities for direct supervision and mentorship from an established doula.
As Due North Support Services grows, so do our needs! We are receiving more requests than we have the capacity to accept, and there is a deficit in practicing doulas across Alaska, especially amongst communities of color. Creating and offering this position is our way of reaching towards the future of the birth scene we wish to exist in our home: a community with a network of skilled and competent and supported doulas.
This is a paid opportunity and a contracted position.
Ideal candidates:
Have begun or completed training with an established national or international certifying organization.
Must provide proof of current auto insurance if using a vehicle for work purposes.
Are required to provide proof of up-to-date COVID-19 vaccine.
Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), immigrants, and LGBTQ+2IA candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
The goals of the Community Doula Mentorship Program:
To increase the number of skilled doulas in our community
To provide aspiring doulas opportunities to shadow a mentoring or primary doula, at the discretion of our client(s)
To help trained doulas complete their certification requirements
To help certified doulas start their own practice with confidence and experience.
Learning opportunities to learn and grow social, emotional, and professional skills and experiences needed for success such as perfecting the client interview, drafting your working documents such as contracts, setting up your own practice, figuring out your fee structure, website, and social media management, surviving and thriving while living life on call, and more!
Expectations of successful candidates:
6-month commitment to being available and on-call for 24-hours during the 4 week period surrounding clients’ estimated due dates
Program Participants are expected to be actively working to complete their certification
